Turning 22 at Lae Lay Grill, Krabi

Sawadeeka Patootie!

I have great news to announce: I just turned 22! *jumps like a rabbit*

I was just chatting with my best friend few days before on how I feel that birthdays are no longer as special as it was when we were younger and it is just like any other day cause we don't wake up feeling like someone else. Also, I sort of wish that I could be 21 forever which is impossible so let's accept the reality as it is.

However, I have came to realize that birthdays can be special too, no matter which birthday it is, nonetheless it is your sweet 17 or maybe 20 or 100 (this is special, forgive me). It is about who you spend it with and I would say my 22 birthday was truly a special one because I was able to spend my advanced birthday with two of my high school besties who I have not met for long and also because I was able to spend it in such a beautiful island making great memories.

In addition, my chicken head boyfriend has made it extra special by planning for a lovely birthday dinner so here is me in my birthday outfit all glaring in red on the way to our dinner venue :p

We had my birthday dinner at Lae Lay Grill which if you google, is also in the list of '6 Places to Eat in Krabi' by Trip Advisor. For those who want to plan ahead, you can even reserve through emails and they will settle everything for you. They even offered this free shuttle service where they will come to your hotel to pick you then send you to the restaurant. Lae Lay Grill is located at the hill top area of Aonang that allows you to view the stunning scenery of the sea, mountains and also the sun set.  A totally lovely place for a sweet dinner with your loved ones. You have to climb up the stairs but it definitely is worth it :)

Did I mention that the ambiance is to die for as well? They specially cater  two spots at the corner left and right specially for couple who do private reservation and this 'special seats' allows the both of you to face the picturesque scenery as you dine in. I love the concept as it provides me with a more private dining experience because we can't see anyone else except for the lovely view.

Not only they have this to offer but they also serve tasty and palatable foods!

They have many varieties of dishes in their menu and it will take you a while to choose cause everything sounds tempting! At the end, we decided to go for two comfort foods and two adventurous dishes: Signature Wok-fried Blue Crab with Salted Egg Yolk, Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables, Nam Prik Goong (Dips) and Massaman Curry with special appearance of coconut shake (again).

The chef cuts the crab to make it is easy for us to eat even without having to use our hands and also instead of cooking it with salted egg yolk as  sauce, they cooked with actual salted egg yolks. Honestly, we still preferred the saucy type as this dish is relatively dry but in some way, we were also drawn to the uniqueness of this dish.

Nam Prik Goong (Spicy Thai Shrimp Dip) is one of the Thai dip dish offered in the menu. It is made of prawn mixed with Thai chili which you can use to dip the sides in. The glimpse of lime juice that was squished into the chili gave that sweet and refreshing taste that was really addictive. This dish was in fact my number one favorite. I would have probably finish everything, but I could not because the chili is pretty spicy and i have gastric. So for those who love spicy food, probably you can try this dish to see if it suits to your palate?

Lastly, Massaman Curry is southern Thai dish influenced by Indian and Malay. It tasted to me like a combination of Thai and Indian curry with a very soft beef chunks and potatoes served with a prata like dough. When eaten with the pickles it gives you that combination of creamy-savoury-sour-sweet taste that is uniquely appealing.

At the end of our meal, we were served with complimentary ice cream of many flavors: melon, lychee, strawberries, Thai milk-tea and strawberry milk! This definitely reminds me of my childhood memory, when my brother and I had the worse sunburn ever just for the sake getting free ice cream beside the pool when we went to Phuket. Silly, dumb and painful but it was a good memory indeed. Oh well, with this ice cream I considered myself as sold!

Lae Lay Grill was not only beautiful during day time, but also at night. You can enjoy the sky turning dark as the sun sets while you savor yourself in the delicious meals. They have friendly and  attentive staffs that are always ready to cater to your needs as well.

I must say, my boyfriend has found the best place for the night and I will give him 5 stars for this! He has such a good taste, I must say :p

It is now the time to dedicate a small section of this post to our wefie and also to the lovely birthday present. He has truly made my 22 birthday the most memorable one thus far and I am truly grateful for all the efforts he has put into in making this possible <3

Lastly, this post is not complete without ratings:

  • Food: 8/10
  • Price: 7.5/10
  • Environment: 9/10
  • Service: 8/10
I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family, because I had a good experience here myself. The next time you are looking for a nice place to dine in when you are at Krabi, you might want to try this cause this place is love, love, love!
